Eva Maria Bucher-Haefner is a Swiss businesswoman and philanthropist. She was born on July 16, 1947, in Switzerland and was the daughter of Walter Bucher, the founder of the Swiss magazine Die Weltwoche. She studied business administration and economics at the University of Zurich.
Bucher-Haefner is the owner of the Swiss textile machinery manufacturer, Saurer Group. She inherited the company from her father in 1989. Under her leadership, Saurer Group expanded its business globally and became a leading supplier of machines and components for the textile industry.
Apart from her business interests, Bucher-Haefner is also involved in various philanthropic activities. She started the Bucher-Bahnhof Foundation in 2000, which aims to promote art and culture in Switzerland. She is also a board member of the Zurich Opera House and the Kunsthaus Zurich museum.
Bucher-Haefner is known for her love for horses and her passion for equestrian sports. She owns a stud farm in Germany, where she breeds world-class horses. She is also a member of the International Olympic Committee and was a member of the organizing committee for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Bucher-Haefner has received many awards and recognition for her contributions to the business and philanthropy. In 2014, she was honored with the Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. She was also awarded the Swiss LGBTI organization, Pink Cross, for her support of the LGBT community in Switzerland.
